Responsibility for RentAs a tenant you have an obligation to pay the rent when due under the terms of the Residential Tenancies Act. A tenant includes someone who is allowed to live in the residence by the landlord. Therefore, even if you did not sign the tenancy agreement, you have an obligation to pay rent if the landlord is allowing you to live in the residence. If the roommate who signed the agreement leaves the property, as a tenant under the Act you still have the obligation to pay the whole amount of the rent. May 2005 |
